This workshop will teach participants how to use the Conduction Performance Evaluation (EDEC), the first Spanish observational assessment of driving in real-world driving conditions. Participants will learn how to apply, score, and interpret the EDEC in a practical way, using real-life driving videos and examples. The workshop will also include the first trial of the EDEC-App, which participants can download for free and learn how to use through videos and practical case studies.<\/p>\n

Home automation (domotics) is an emerging tool within the field of assistive technologies aimed at promoting personal autonomy and adapting the home environment. This theoretical-practical workshop aims to introduce Occupational Therapy students and professionals to the use of basic and accessible domotic systems (voice assistants, smart plugs, connected lighting, and automated routines) as resources that facilitate occupational performance.<\/p>\n

Throughout the session, conceptual foundations on environmental control, accessibility, and person-centered design will be presented, linking technology with the clinical reasoning specific to the discipline.<\/p>\n

The workshop prioritizes immediate clinical applicability, promoting critical reflection on the prescription, adaptation, and training in the use of domotic systems within therapeutic intervention. Participants are expected to gain a structured understanding of the potential of these tools as part of interventions focused on environmental adaptation and support for functional autonomy.

Contemporary rehabilitation increasingly recognises that improving health outcomes cannot be reduced to the remediation of impairments alone, but must be understood in relation to people\u2019s ability to engage in meaningful activities and participate in society. While meaningful activities are central to occupational therapy and person-centred care, translating these into sustained participation in everyday life remains a key challenge in clinical practice.<\/p>\n

This interactive workshop introduces a transactional perspective on the relationship between meaningful activities and participation. Drawing on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) and recent developments in participation-oriented rehabilitation, participants will explore participation as a dynamic and context-dependent process, emerging from ongoing interactions between the individual, their activities, and the environment.<\/p>\n

Moving beyond a capacity-focused approach, the workshop adopts a goal-oriented framework, in which meaningful activities are used as entry points to support participation in personally relevant life roles and contexts. Through practical exercises, case discussions, and the use of structured tools (including goal-setting instruments such as CLEVER), participants will learn how to identify meaningful activities, translate these into participation-oriented goals, and tailor interventions to the individual\u2019s context.<\/p>\n

By the end of the workshop, participants will have gained practical insights and strategies to operationalise a transactional approach in their own clinical practice, with a focus on enhancing participation through meaningful, goal-driven rehabilitation.<\/p>\n

Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), is a form of non-invasive brain stimulation, which has received considerable interest as a neuromodulatory technique with the potential to improve cortical plasticity and improve motor function in a variety of neurological conditions, such as motor recovery in stroke survivors, cognitive functions or aphasia. It is also an important tool in the management of neuropathic, postoperative, chronic or fibromyalgia pain. In addition, pathologies such as Parkinson’s Disease, Alzheimer’s, Ataxia or Multiple Sclerosis can benefit from this technique.
On the other hand, tDCS is applied in psychiatric disorders such as depression (level of evidence A), consumption of toxic substances or schizophrenia. Its application consists of a constant, direct and low-intensity current to the scalp through electrodes. This enables cortical excitability or inhibition, depending on the stimulation parameters. In short, tDCS is a safe and easy-to-use tool that can facilitate neuroplastic processes in a way that amplifies the effect of occupational therapy and functional recovery.
The workshop will consist of the presentation of the apparatus, implementation methodology and practice for the improvement of the motor function of the upper limb.

The workshop consists of a short explanation about general adapted sports: types of sports that exist and the leagues in which our users participate. We will explain what Boccia and Slalom consist of, which are the two most important and representative sports for athletes with Cerebral Palsy, and what is our role as therapists and as support for the athlete. Afterwards, there will be a practical part that will occupy most of the time, in which the students will be able to learn to accompany the athletes themselves, being the same ones who teach them how to play.

Throughout this workshop there will be a presentation of the characteristics of two of our recommended tools for the evaluation in Occupational Therapy. A global vision of the benefits of its application will be offered to help the professional in the evaluation process, as well as in the planning of the intervention. The MABC-2 is one of the most widely used batteries internationally for the identification and planning of the intervention in children and adolescents (from 4 to 16:11 years) with suspicions of Coordination Disorder. Its application allows the professional to evaluate motor skills from three specific domains: manual dexterity, aiming and catching, and balance. For its part, the Sensory Profile-2 (PS-2) is the most prestigious tool for evaluating sensory processing patterns in children and adolescents (3 to 14:11 years). The information obtained through the application of standardized questionnaires allows professionals to identify how sensory processing can favor or hinder the participation of the child\/adolescent in activities of daily life.

Este taller te\u00f3rico-pr\u00e1ctico tiene como finalidad introducir a estudiantes y profesionales de Terapia Ocupacional en el uso de sistemas dom\u00f3ticos b\u00e1sicos y accesibles\u00a0<\/span>(asistentes de voz, enchufes inteligentes, iluminaci\u00f3n conectada y rutinas automatizadas)\u00a0<\/span>como recursos facilitadores del desempe\u00f1o ocupacional.<\/span><\/p>\n

A lo largo de la sesi\u00f3n se presentar\u00e1n fundamentos conceptuales sobre control ambiental,\u00a0<\/span>accesibilidad y dise\u00f1o centrado en la persona, vinculando la tecnolog\u00eda con el razonamiento\u00a0<\/span>cl\u00ednico propio de la disciplina.<\/span><\/p>\n

El enfoque del taller prioriza la aplicabilidad cl\u00ednica inmediata, promoviendo la reflexi\u00f3n cr\u00edtica sobre la indicaci\u00f3n, adecuaci\u00f3n y entrenamiento en el uso de sistemas dom\u00f3ticos dentro de la intervenci\u00f3n terap\u00e9utica. La rehabilitaci\u00f3n contempor\u00e1nea reconoce cada vez m\u00e1s que la mejora de los resultados en salud no puede reducirse \u00fanicamente a la remediaci\u00f3n de las deficiencias, sino que debe entenderse en relaci\u00f3n con la capacidad de las personas para participar en actividades significativas e integrarse en la sociedad. Aunque las actividades significativas son fundamentales en la terapia ocupacional y en la atenci\u00f3n centrada en la persona, trasladarlas a una participaci\u00f3n sostenida en la vida cotidiana sigue siendo un reto clave en la pr\u00e1ctica cl\u00ednica.<\/p>\n

Este taller interactivo introduce una perspectiva transaccional sobre la relaci\u00f3n entre las actividades significativas y la participaci\u00f3n. Bas\u00e1ndose en la Clasificaci\u00f3n Internacional del Funcionamiento, de la Discapacidad y de la Salud (CIF)<\/strong> y en los avances recientes de la rehabilitaci\u00f3n orientada a la participaci\u00f3n, los participantes explorar\u00e1n la participaci\u00f3n como un proceso din\u00e1mico y dependiente del contexto, que surge de las interacciones continuas entre la persona, sus actividades y el entorno.<\/p>\n

M\u00e1s all\u00e1 de un enfoque centrado en la capacidad, el taller adopta un marco orientado a objetivos, en el que las actividades significativas se utilizan como punto de partida para favorecer la participaci\u00f3n en roles y contextos vitales relevantes para la persona. A trav\u00e9s de ejercicios pr\u00e1cticos, discusi\u00f3n de casos y el uso de herramientas estructuradas (incluyendo instrumentos de establecimiento de objetivos como CLEVER<\/strong>), los participantes aprender\u00e1n a identificar actividades significativas, traducirlas en objetivos orientados a la participaci\u00f3n y adaptar las intervenciones al contexto individual.<\/p>\n

One of the most significant possibilities to care for a patient from Primary Care is to do it in their own environment, at home, that is why I have chosen this aspect to focus the workshop. At home we can take advantage of the opportunity to assess the patient functionally in their environment, their skills, their demands or needs, highlighting our framework and what distinguishes us from other professionals by contributing something of our own. We will be able to know psychosocial aspects of the person, the physical environment in which he\/she lives and architectural barriers to be able to advise on adaptations and support products, indicate simplification of tasks or improvement in the execution of ADLs, advise on improving healthy habits, technical therapeutic activities, ergonomics, mobility and teaching caregivers, one of our most important functions in Primary Care. I will also explain some examples of multidisciplinary work in home visits with the Social Worker or the PC Nurse Case Manager. We will also see the orthosis materials that are usually used to make them at home and some example of elaboration.<\/p>\n

People living with life-limiting illnesses are increasingly expected to manage everyday life for as long as possible receiving primarily outpatient treatment.\u00a0<\/span>Getting a life-limiting illness has significant consequences for people (individuals, families, and communities) as death and dying may be of greater concern; they may lose their sense of coherence in the life span, the sense of meaningfulness and the significance of habitual everyday life. Identity, roles, and relations may change and cause despair and suffering. Furthermore, pain, fatigue and functional limitations often follow with life-limiting illness and subsequently impact the ability to perform and engage in everyday activities, such as self-care, household, leisure, and civic-life. Existing research has found that people with life-limiting illness prefer support focusing on their resources as opposed to problems and hence resource-oriented and salutogenetic approaches to intervention are required. Occupational therapy can with its focus on enabling occupation and everyday life be an important contribution to palliative care for people with life-limiting illnesses, to maintain their quality of life including meaningfulness, functional capacity and provide them with the necessary relief from suffering.\u00a0 <\/span>This workshop presents current research-based knowledge related to occupational therapy practice in palliative care. Participants will be introduced to approaches and ways in which to develop and provide palliative occupational therapy interventions. <\/span>The workshop will consist of presentations and discussions in smaller groups and in plenum through which participants will be introduced to and ascertain knowledge about providing palliative occupational therapy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This workshop will teach participants how to use the Conduction Performance Evaluation (EDEC), the first Spanish observational assessment of driving in real-world driving conditions. Participants will learn how to apply, score, and interpret the EDEC in a practical way, using real-life driving videos and examples. The workshop will also include the first trial of the EDEC-App, which participants can download for free and learn how to use through videos and practical case studies.<\/p>\n

Mar\u00eda Rodr\u00edguez Bail\u00f3n: Professor of Occupational Therapy at the University of M\u00e1laga. PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience. Her main lines of research are human occupation and how it can be limited by cognitive and environmental problems following brain injury or neurodegenerative disorders. She is currently developing several research projects on assessing the driving ability of stroke survivors, individuals with cognitive impairment, and older adults. She also explores the relationship between participation in meaningful activities and health and well-being.<\/p>\n
