This workshop will teach participants how to use the Conduction Performance Evaluation (EDEC), the first Spanish observational assessment of driving in real-world driving conditions. Participants will learn how to apply, score, and interpret the EDEC in a practical way, using real-life driving videos and examples. The workshop will also include the first trial of the EDEC-App, which participants can download for free and learn how to use through videos and practical case studies.<\/p>\n

This theoretical-practical workshop aims to introduce Occupational Therapy students and professionals to the use of basic and accessible domotic systems (voice assistants, smart plugs, connected lighting, and automated routines) as resources that facilitate occupational performance.<\/p>\n

Throughout the session, conceptual foundations on environmental control, accessibility, and person-centered design will be presented, linking technology with the clinical reasoning specific to the discipline.<\/p>\n

The workshop prioritizes immediate clinical applicability, promoting critical reflection on the prescription, adaptation, and training in the use of domotic systems within therapeutic intervention. Participants are expected to gain a structured understanding of the potential of these tools as part of interventions focused on environmental adaptation and support for functional autonomy.<\/p>\n

Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), is a form of non-invasive brain stimulation, which has received considerable interest as a neuromodulatory technique with the potential to improve cortical plasticity and improve motor function in a variety of neurological conditions, such as motor recovery in stroke survivors, cognitive functions or aphasia. It is also an important tool in the management of neuropathic, postoperative, chronic or fibromyalgia pain. In addition, pathologies such as Parkinson’s Disease, Alzheimer’s, Ataxia or Multiple Sclerosis can benefit from this technique.
On the other hand, tDCS is applied in psychiatric disorders such as depression (level of evidence A), consumption of toxic substances or schizophrenia. Its application consists of a constant, direct and low-intensity current to the scalp through electrodes. This enables cortical excitability or inhibition, depending on the stimulation parameters. In short, tDCS is a safe and easy-to-use tool that can facilitate neuroplastic processes in a way that amplifies the effect of occupational therapy and functional recovery.
The workshop will consist of the presentation of the apparatus, implementation methodology and practice for the improvement of the motor function of the upper limb.

Throughout this workshop there will be a presentation of the characteristics of two of our recommended tools for the evaluation in Occupational Therapy. A global vision of the benefits of its application will be offered to help the professional in the evaluation process, as well as in the planning of the intervention. The MABC-2 is one of the most widely used batteries internationally for the identification and planning of the intervention in children and adolescents (from 4 to 16:11 years) with suspicions of Coordination Disorder. Its application allows the professional to evaluate motor skills from three specific domains: manual dexterity, aiming and catching, and balance. For its part, the Sensory Profile-2 (PS-2) is the most prestigious tool for evaluating sensory processing patterns in children and adolescents (3 to 14:11 years). The information obtained through the application of standardized questionnaires allows professionals to identify how sensory processing can favor or hinder the participation of the child\/adolescent in activities of daily life.

The effects of drugs of abuse and addictive behaviors without substances are not the same for all people, there are internal and external factors, the different personal, environmental and occupational circumstances when interrelated, can predispose or protect individuals to develop addiction problems. As occupational therapists we are interested in analyzing the indicators related to occupational risk and protective behaviors. Another objective of this workshop is to reflect on the explanatory model of addiction from an occupational perspective (Karen Helbig & Hlizabeth McKay), it is necessary to understand the development of addictive behaviors from an occupational perspective, and to identify the keys to consider in order to try to understand the occupational behavior associated with such consumption problems.<\/p>\n

One of the most significant possibilities to care for a patient from Primary Care is to do it in their own environment, at home, that is why I have chosen this aspect to focus the workshop. At home we can take advantage of the opportunity to assess the patient functionally in their environment, their skills, their demands or needs, highlighting our framework and what distinguishes us from other professionals by contributing something of our own. We will be able to know psychosocial aspects of the person, the physical environment in which he\/she lives and architectural barriers to be able to advise on adaptations and support products, indicate simplification of tasks or improvement in the execution of ADLs, advise on improving healthy habits, technical therapeutic activities, ergonomics, mobility and teaching caregivers, one of our most important functions in Primary Care. I will also explain some examples of multidisciplinary work in home visits with the Social Worker or the PC Nurse Case Manager. We will also see the orthosis materials that are usually used to make them at home and some example of elaboration.<\/p>\n

People living with life-limiting illnesses are increasingly expected to manage everyday life for as long as possible receiving primarily outpatient treatment.\u00a0<\/span>Getting a life-limiting illness has significant consequences for people (individuals, families, and communities) as death and dying may be of greater concern; they may lose their sense of coherence in the life span, the sense of meaningfulness and the significance of habitual everyday life. Identity, roles, and relations may change and cause despair and suffering. Furthermore, pain, fatigue and functional limitations often follow with life-limiting illness and subsequently impact the ability to perform and engage in everyday activities, such as self-care, household, leisure, and civic-life. Existing research has found that people with life-limiting illness prefer support focusing on their resources as opposed to problems and hence resource-oriented and salutogenetic approaches to intervention are required. Occupational therapy can with its focus on enabling occupation and everyday life be an important contribution to palliative care for people with life-limiting illnesses, to maintain their quality of life including meaningfulness, functional capacity and provide them with the necessary relief from suffering.\u00a0 <\/span>This workshop presents current research-based knowledge related to occupational therapy practice in palliative care. Participants will be introduced to approaches and ways in which to develop and provide palliative occupational therapy interventions. <\/span>The workshop will consist of presentations and discussions in smaller groups and in plenum through which participants will be introduced to and ascertain knowledge about providing palliative occupational therapy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This workshop will teach participants how to use the Conduction Performance Evaluation (EDEC), the first Spanish observational assessment of driving in real-world driving conditions. Participants will learn how to apply, score, and interpret the EDEC in a practical way, using real-life driving videos and examples. The workshop will also include the first trial of the EDEC-App, which participants can download for free and learn how to use through videos and practical case studies.<\/p>\n

PhD candidate in the Health Sciences program at the Faculty of Health Sciences, studying driving performance in stroke survivors. I have 17 years of clinical experience working with individuals with neurological damage.
Mar\u00eda Rodr\u00edguez Bail\u00f3n: Professor of Occupational Therapy at the University of M\u00e1laga. PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience. Her main lines of research are human occupation and how it can be limited by cognitive and environmental problems following brain injury or neurodegenerative disorders. She is currently developing several research projects on assessing the driving ability of stroke survivors, individuals with cognitive impairment, and older adults. She also explores the relationship between participation in meaningful activities and health and well-being.<\/p>\n

Materials and space needed for the course<\/strong>: a room with a projector. We will need to show videos, and it is important that the sound is clear. Participants must bring a mobile phone or tablet to download and use the application.<\/p>\n
